All restaurants and food establishments must be licensed and pass regular health inspections to assure that the facility meets food safety standards. This applies to restaurants that sell food to the public from a set address, including bed and breakfasts.

License

The documents below provide guidance with both the licensing process and the plan review process. Plan review approval is also required (1) before starting construction of a new restaurant ; (2) when a new operator takes possession of an operating restaurant; (3) before the approved floor plan of a restaurant is modified or (4) when there is intent to change the menu in a way adding new food processes.

Renew

Licenses are good for one calendar year. Renew your license by paying the license fee by January 1 of each year.

Inspections

Environmental health specialists conduct two routine unannounced inspections per year to ensure compliance with Oregon’s Food Sanitation Rules. Follow-up inspections are conducted on any facility where a public health risk is identified. Inspections focus on food temperatures, food preparation practices, worker hygiene, dishwashing and sanitizing, equipment, and facility cleanliness. You can review inspections reports for restaurants, mobile units, motels, pools, spas and RV parks on line.
