HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT May 13, 14, 2023

*** HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM NOON SATURDAY TO 11 PM SUNDAY ***

* WHAT: Maximum temperatures of 80 to 90 degrees along the immediate coast, but 90 to 98 degrees inland.

* WHERE: South Central Oregon Coast and Curry County Coast.

* WHEN: From noon Saturday to 11 PM Sunday.

* IMPACTS: Hot temperatures may cause heat illnesses to occur.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Ocean breezes on Saturday probably keep the warmest air just inland. It will be slow to cool all areas Saturday night with offshore east winds. The hottest weather is likely on Sunday with a greater than 60% chance of temperatures exceeding 80 degrees all the way to the beaches. There is a greater than 90 percent chance of temperatures exceeding 90 degrees over the inland river valleys like the Chetco, Rogue, Coquille, and Umpqua.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.
