COVID-19 Updates for Today
- Coos County Public Health knows of 1024 COVID-19 tests that have been administered to county residents. 40 of these tests are pending results, 2 are presumptive, and 954 are negative.
- Oregon Health Authority has reported 3,479 cumulative cases of COVID-19 (+67 confirmed, no new presumptive cases*) in Oregon, as well as 137 deaths (+3 new deaths) to date.
- *Note: The state is now including presumptive COVID-19 cases in its daily reports, consistent with recently amended guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A presumptive case is someone who does not have a positive PCR test — a “Polymerase Chain Reaction” that confirms if a person has COVID-19 — but is showing symptoms and has had close contact with a confirmed case. If they later test positive by PCR, those will be recategorized as confirmed cases.
- As of May 14, 2020, CDC reported 1,384,930 total cases (+20,869 new cases) and 83,947 total deaths (+1,701 new deaths) in the United States.
- As of May 14, 2020, the World Health Organization reports 4,248,389 confirmed cases (+77,965 new cases) and 294,046 deaths (+6,647 new deaths).
- New Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA or Act) comes into effect on April 1st requires certain employers to provide their employees with paid sick leave and expanded family and medical leave for specified reasons related to COVID-19. These provisions will apply from April 1, 2020 through December 31, 2020.
- Our next virtual town hall is scheduled for May 19, 2020. You can listen to it live on YouTube Live on our YouTube channel or on Facebook, or listen to it after the fact. Check out the Coos Health & Wellness YouTube and Facebook pages on our website.
