COVID-19 Updates for Today

  • Coos County Public Health knows of 895 COVID-19 tests that have been administered to county residents. 20 of these tests are pending results, 2 are presumptive, and 845 are negative.
  • Oregon Health Authority has reported 3,286 positive cases of COVID-19 (+51 confirmed, +7 presumptive*) in Oregon, as well as 130 deaths (+3 new deaths) to date.
    • *Note: The state is now including presumptive COVID-19 cases in its daily reports, consistent with recently amended guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A presumptive case is someone who does not have a positive PCR test — a “Polymerase Chain Reaction” that confirms if a person has COVID-19 — but is showing symptoms and has had close contact with a confirmed case. If they later test positive by PCR, those will be recategorized as confirmed cases.
  • As of May 11, 2020, John Hopkins reported 1,324,488 total cases (+23,792 new cases) and 79,756 total deaths in the United States.
  • As of May 11, 2020, the World Health Organization reports 4,006,257 confirmed cases (+88,891 new cases) and 278,892 deaths (+4,531 new deaths).
  • New Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA or Act) comes into effect on April 1st requires certain employers to provide their employees with paid sick leave and expanded family and medical leave for specified reasons related to COVID-19. These provisions will apply from April 1, 2020 through December 31, 2020.
  • Our next virtual town hall is scheduled for May 12, 2020. You can listen to it live on YouTube Live on our YouTube channel or on Facebook, or listen to it after the fact. Check out the Coos Health & Wellness YouTube and Facebook pages on our website.
  • All questions are of value, so do not hesitate to ask via our specific email: covid19.questions@chw.coos.or.us
