CHW is responsible for providing protective services and investigating suspicions of abuse to those adults that have a severe mental illness and are receiving mental health services from a community organization. Adult protective services means the necessary actions taken to prevent abuse or exploitation of an adult, to prevent self-destructive acts, and to safeguard a person, property, or funds, including petitioning for a protective order.
Other organizations perform similar roles for other groups of individuals. Child abuse reports can be made to DHS Child Welfare at 541-756-5500; abuse of an older or disabled adult is handled through DHS Aging and People with Disabilities at 541-756-2017; abuse of an individual with developmental disabilities is handled through Community Living Case Management 541-266-7300.
